honing pattern

Need some info.

What will happened if my machineshop false to make honing pattern?

I see that bmw factory honing is like like cross between it.

But my machineshop make it like just swirl horizontal pattern. They said it is like another diesel engine from made in Japan truck, so it is no problem and don't eat oil.

Any opinions?

Thank you motormanmick, it is very useful infomation, now i think it will result oil excessive consumption but hope not too much.
