I bought a steering spindle bearing as the start of my quest to get rid of my squeak and clunk. Does anybody have a write-up, video or suggestions on how to replace this bearing? I see there is a c-clip and then there is a spring mechanism that needs to be removed. Are there any tricks I need to know? Thanks.

Hi,

I found that my squeak and clunk was coming from the lower steering bearing.
It sounded like it was coming from the steering wheel end of the spindle but i think the noise was travelling up the spindle.
Try spraying some oil down the middle hole in the spindle, if the noise reduces like mine did, then you have a worn lower bearing.
It took me a long time to work out where the squeak was coming from. I first thought it was the carbon track behind the steering wheel, then i tried cleaning and re greasing the upper steering bearing and then finally i realised what it was!

I think my weird noise is coming from one or both of the bearings, it's only started happening after I changed the steering rack. I think tapping the Uj onto the lower spindle has maybe pushed the whole column up and that's why it's buzzing/vibrating. I'm going to try loosening the nuts on the Uj and striking top of column to see if it moves down and stops the noise. I'll let you know if it works!
