hello,

i have recently bought a 1990 316i saloon. its in amazing condition and is super original. i would like to do a few modifications without entirely ruining this originality.

i am not an expert on these cars, i have had other Bmw's but not an E30 until now. I would like to improve the suspension a tad.

Ideally i was looking at putting original sport suspension. so my questions are, what is the original M-tech suspension? can i still get it new and from where? will it even fit my car?

thanks to anyone who can help me,

Joe.

You'll need the larger struts if you want Mtec suspension.
Or buy after market stuff like Bilstein 45mm struts and eibach springs

Most 316 cars and some 320 came with smaller 45mm struts as performance was not on the list..
changing consists of getting some larger struts and swapping them over....nut and bolt job...but you may need to renew some other parts too such as ball joints etc...

ok, in that case it doesnt sound like a problem. On the after-market front, I am looking at bilstein shocks and springs currently. staying with the 45mm options it seems to be either B4's or B6's combined with bilstein OEM springs. either of those a wise choice?

B4''s will be fine unless your going engine swap..and if you are you're still going to.need to swap the struts over.
