Hi Guys
I have the dreaded oil level light lit on the check panel but the car is full of oil.
I have had 3 second hand oil level sensors in the car and still the light comes on.
I now have a brand new hella oil level sender in the car and the oil warning light is still on.
I have cut the plug of the loom connection that connects to the oil level sender and reconnected it with all new soldered connections on the spades in the plug, the light still comes on.
I have found no clue reading all the posts here either.
I know one of the pins in the connecting plug that goes into the loom is the earth, the middle one but where does this earth go so I can check it ?
Also can anybody else give me any more ideas on where to look for problems in the electrical side as I believe this is definately an electrical fault somewhere on the oil level sender cabling.
Regards
Neil.

Sensor is earthed through its body to the sump, and also by a brown/orange wire that runs through the engine loom to a crimped joint in the section along the bulkhead. Here it connects, with other brown/orange wires, to a thicker brown/orange that connects to the earthing stud on the top of the RH suspension turret.
If an attempt to start the car has been made at any time in the past when there has been a poor connection to the main engine to body earth lead, this wire, and any wire touching it in the loom, will be badly damaged.

I have had this problem for about three years now and I have got a bit obsessive about it. I like to have all the original bits, things working as they should, it is just not good enough for me just to say forget it, I get, I guess mild OCD.
Anyway after cleaning, installing and checking resistances on numerous second hand sensors, re-soldering all the plugs and checking all the wire I then resorted to a brand new sensor and this still did not solve the problem.
I have now solved it.
I bumped into a thread about someone who had the rear brake light bulb indicator on the check panel keep coming on even though he had checked everything.
What this chap did was what I did and it has worked in both our cases, we re-soldered the leds in the check panel, his solved his brake light indicator and mine solved my oil level indicator.
Amazing something so simple and straight forward.
