Normally I would search the forum for what seems a normal problem but I have just realised something that could be something else....please bear with me!

Had my e30 for a year now and when I originally got it the passenger (L/H) mirror worked but the driver (R/H) didn't.

Also when I purchased it the seller told me it had a power problem and I had to unhook the battery or it would drain.

It needed a good service and a friend of mine offered to do it so I told him about the power problem.

He told me that the problem was down to a relay he found in the driver kick panel so he removed it.

At the same time the mirrors stopped working completely so I presumed the relay had something to do with the mirrors.

Anyways fast forward a year and I want to sort the mirror problem and start reading up on common problems and I have now found out that the mirrors don't use a relay of any sort, let alone in the driver kick panel!

So this post has two parts:

1.What should I check for the mirrors? Switch? Wiring? Connections? Motor?

2. What the bloody hell is that relay that was removed!!!

Thanks in advance

Mirrors do work through a relay - K7 in the fusebox, but the heater fan also works via this relay, so if the fan is OK, then it's not the cause of the mirror problem.
The mirror control switch is fairly unreliable, so could be part of your problem, but since the problem became worse when someone was messing in the area, I suspect corroded pins in the socket in the A pillar(s), where the door looms plug in to the body loom may be another part of the problem.
If the relay that was removed was inside the front of the RH sill, immediately below the speaker, it would have been a delay unit for the interior lamps.
Did it not occur to your friend that the relay was there for a purpose, and just removing it was not a sensible solution to the battery drain problem?
