Hello again!

How many volts would a new alternator put out for a 325i? For complicated reasons I need an alternator that will put out more than 14V preferably more than 14.2V. My current original alt puts out 13.8V and this is not enough.

I would happily buy a new one if I knew it would give me the required voltage but I cant find anywhere that will confirm voltage out put for me.

On another note is it possible to modify alternators to put out more volts?

TIA

Neil

should be 14.4v, no need to get a new one, just get a voltage pack, unscrew the old one in the back of the alternator and install the new one, unless the bearing is gone no need,

13.8v is undercharging had mine running at that voltage for some time and the car ran however it wasnt charging the battery enough, and jump leads became a must have, iirc the regulator cost a few pounds and my alternators still working spot on

you might as well explain the complicated reasons bit. 13.8 is spot on what it should be. not that I am advising it, but you can look into how the voltage regulator works and try to make it work for what you think you need. i'm very interested to hear why you think you need more voltage though

Ok so now I have two opinions, either it should run at 14.4V or it should be 13.8V (which is what its running at). I could buy a new regulator but if its meant to run at 13.8V its only going to stay the same. I have read about using diodes in the D+ wire to up the voltage by 0.6V...?
