I'll leave the full advice to the experts but I got mine sorted out (and converted to current gas) by a mobile company based in Dartford if you get stuck. If the light's not on have you checked the relevant fuse?

Check the fuse first
If the fuse is good then you might be lucky and it's just the switch has corroded internally, just like window switches do. Pull it out, blast it with Contact Cleaner, switch it on and off a few dozen times, then refit it and see if it lights up.

First thing to do is to slide all the controls over to the right, some systems (like mine) won't turn the AC on unless the vents are open a certain amount on the control

not noticed the "slide to the right (................charlie brown)" situation before and the blue light has gone off. the yellow recirc still seems to be functioning as i can hear the flaps closing.
i will try cleaning the contacts....i'm guessing push out from behind by reaching behind by loosening the knee roll instead of direct attack of screwdriver to the switch?

Its nost likely low pressure, hotter outside temps and engine bay heat will bring the pressure up hence why its now working

check first that the compressor is engage or not while you turn on the ac.
if not check the relay the tallest black near the fuse box, sometimes corroded etc.
if the compressor engage then check the freon gas at the ac shop, if no gas then check the leakage.
but if still a lot of gas then change the gas filter, the black one like capsule in the near condenser.
i live in tropical hot 34 degree celcius so ac is a must here
