Someone stupid was pulling on the controller or whatever it's called and it fell off along with some other parts. The parts in my hand are all the parts I could find and I hope it's the only parts needed.

Is the threaded gold metal thing just gonna be threaded over the gray metal rod that is sticking out from the panel, and then the plastic controller is going to be pushed on to the metal rod?

That's how I thought it should be assembled and I assume I have to remove the whole panel or at least the stereo in order to hold the metal rod as it just wants to fall further into the panel if I put pressure on it.

So, before I tear anything apart, am I thinking correctly and am I not missing any parts?

Are you able to see the picture jmc330i posted?

Otherwise this link should work: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v456/ ... zv8q7d.png

Yes, can see that one.
All parts are present, but if the brass part was removed without unscrewing it, then the plastic internal threads on the switch must have stripped.
The brass part is just an externally threaded nut/bush to hold the switch in position. The knob appears complete, and just pushes on.
If you need access behind, I'd suggest removing the rear centre console, followed by the front centre console.
