Hi All,

Does it matter if the plastic sheet is missing behind my door cards on a cabby?

If it does matter, can anyone of you suggest what I do here?

Also, is there any visual diagram available for how many clips & fasteners there should be on each door card as a factory fit should be?

Any help would be great. :)

thanks, Tripper

I had a water infiltration because the plastic sheet on one of the door was not sealed properly. I noticed the problem as the car was parked on an angle so the water that gets passed the window seal would run toward the inside of the car and pass the plastic. I would suggest that you check your carpet for water and park level until you put a new plastic in. I had to experiment with different materials and glues to get a good bond and I've forgotten what I used.

The plastic sheet is essential, and has to be sealed properly. Doors are designed to get water inside them, and the sheet is what stops it getting into the cabin.
Late E30s and later models use a stronger plastic sheet that is sealed with a black semi reusable sealant.
In the absence of the correct sheet, building DPM PVC sheet and duct tape does the job.

I doubt it, I used a thick rubble sack cut to shape, brushed glue on the door and taped the edges for good measure.

This is a fairly common problem in the motor trade, and a general motor factors should be able to supply generic materials to do the job.

It's called butyl tape , but it from ebay or loads of places, get some thick heavy duty plastic sheeting and make your own liner gutting it to shape and trimming it

that what i did with mine a while back, had no problems at all so far.

easy enough to do, use polythene sheeting & simply cut to shape after you've stuck the sheet over the door.

Luckily I never had to I bought some tape once for my truck, I broke an e30 s few years ago and removed a pair of these, just folded them up and forgot about them, 3 years later when re building my car i came across them and they were like new still and tape stuck back perfectly

was from a 318is- plastic on one side and a foam deadening backing on the inside , so glad i didn't bin em, it felt like a little jackpot
