im putting a new diff on my mates car at the moment and after eventually getting the old one off i have found that the spare one i have does not fit, the only reason i can think of is that the car iam fixing is a manual and the diff i have is off an automatic?
Just wanted to know if iam going to encounter any more problems in locating a diff? It is an f-reg 320i, so do i need to get a diff off a 320i off the same age of will any none automatic one be fine
Any help much appreciated

As far as i am aware, the E30 driveline is the same on all cars from the gearbox back. (Excluding the ix)

What is the problem..where about does it not fit?
As Kam said, there's no difference it auto/manual diffs apart from maybe the ratios.
If its the prop that's not fitting, it can be adjusted.

after trying it on the car i put the new diff next to the broken one and it is longer by about 2 inch, thus when it is on the car the prop wont fit, you say the prop can be ajusted, how do i do this if it is too long

There's a locknut close to the center bearing. Loosen it and slide in one part of prop into other. Then tighten locknut again.

Hope this works. 2 inches might be a bit too much?
