I know these self adjust, but they will reach the end of their adjustment one day and while I'm rebuilding my spare engine I thought I'd ask if these are just replaced outright (expensive?) or whether they can just be shimmed?
...or is it?

You cant shim these tappets.
I doubt they would reach their limit in the engine.
If you want you can regrind the valves back into their seats to get rid of any possible slack.

When I had the head gasket done on my old E36 Compact 316i (I think that was M42?) it made quite loud tappy noise when I first got it back on cold starts. A good long motorway trip to get the presure up was the solution.Omi wrote:M42 mate...
