Fuel pump relay, common problem on the old LE Jet systems. It's a tall black relay near the air filter box and has seven pins and whilst it's called a fuel pump relay, it also activates the injectors.

Is this the engine that's been transplanted into a facelift shell? If so, the problem could be with the signal that operates the relay, rather than the relay itself. The green (switched ignition live) wire to this relay arrived by the C104 plug and socket, which won't be present in the facelift body loom.
