I've recently purchased a '91 E30 316i. It's an ace car and I'm loving it so far.
It's completely stock minus a shitty aftermarket fart can exhaust the last owner thought to have fitted
It's been fitted incredibly poorly, having just been welded on in place of the old backbox. It sits wonky, bangs against the valence constantly and has required that someone 'clearance' the valence by cutting a great chunk out of it to clear the tailpipes.
It sounds well shit too.
So yea, it has to go!
Been looking at repro standard exhausts, but am unsure of how they mount on to the body of the car. The current one has had it's own hook welded on to suspend it via rubber donut.
Looking at pictures of standard ones fitted to cars, I understand they have 2 straps that hang the backbox in place. How do these then mount to the body of the car? I just need to know how they secure to the car, as the original mounts may well have been cut off to fit the aftermarket box fitted. Hopefully not.
Just need to know what to look for under the car, to find out if I'll be needing to weld anything up on the car before I go ahead and rip the existing system off.
Thanks,
Max
