Hello

So, I saw something hanging just behind my drivers wheel arch and after a bit of poking and pulling we have this..

Image

There is a little arch rust bit nothing major and some bubbling on the bottom of the drivers door and a little on the sill but very minor.

Any thoughts or ideas? I have a friend who welds but he hasn't done much bodywork. I'm hapoing this can be saved without throwing thousands at a bodyshop in welding and fabrication.

Cheers

Mine wasn't as bad as that but I got it fixed. You need to get the carpet unclipped so you can move it out of the way, this means undoing a lot of interior trim including the strip under the door. Then take out the plastic arch liner. The wing might move enough after you undo the screws along the back edge, if not undo all the screws and take it off.

Cut out the rusty bits and make a new patch.

Bottom of the wing has rotten out by the lip. Easier to get another wing ideally in the same colour, post a wanted ad here and see what happens, price is usually ok on here.

The rusty hole is where the jacking pad sat, do not use this as a jacking platform as only the factory used them, over time water sits in between the seams and slowly rot!
You don't have to replicate them as its a rust trap.

Carpet up brutally find the good metal chop out with a grinder and MIG weld in new metal.
Finish with zinc rich primer, seam sealer round the joins and rubberised underseal to finish, 3m make a good product I think...

Alternatively look at the resto pages on here, beardymatts rings a bell.....
