HHHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!

Got a few very strange electrical problems with my sport,

A while ago the windows packed up & when I could suss it left it while I had tharse with it.

Went out to the car today, stuck the battery from my daily on it & tried the windows again (as if it wouldve sorted itself lol) only to find that the heater blower, & wing mirrors wouldn't work (what a suprise).

Did a search on here (& the wiki) & follew the advise about checking fuse 17 & 28, they were both fine, also found a post about relay K7 & pulling that & bridging sockets 30 & 85(?) With a bit of wire, did that (with ign off, aint that daft) & got a few sparks,
So put the relay back in & went to try the ign again, only to find that the dash was lit up, pulled the battery & then reconnected it & put the key in the ign only to find the only lights to come on were the abs & battery lights,

Can't afford to get a sparky to it & I'm hopeing (fingers crossed) its a simple fix I can do myself.

Help me out please folks this is doing my head in.

Forgot to add,

When I pulled relay K7 out the pins/tabs on the bottom looked a bit discoloured/burnt if you know what I mean??

My k7 and k5 had that discoloration as well, ignore it.

Ignore fuse 28, that fag lighter and power ariel.

You want fuse 19 for the heaters and the mirrors.

You can test your relays quite simply, you only need to stick 12v to pin 86 and earth pin 85 and you should get a click. No click no switching.

Bridging the relay should be pins 30 and 87. No wonder you got sparks!

Could be a bad relay try pins 30 and 87 on the K7 and check again, test the K7 and K5 as well.

Could you please explain in a bit more detail how to test the relay itself? Thanks.

Have you linked pins 30 and 87 of the K5 relay socket? If the windows work, either it's a duff relay or you need to check the green/black wire at the starter motor - a dodgy connection here can cause a non working heater blower and mirrors.
On my old touring, the terminal on the starter itself had come loose.

Hi james,

I thought it was K7 oops, will try K5 instead,

Checked the 8mm nut on the starter & it was good & tight,

Had a look on google & a few say about the solenoid in the starter, how do you check it? & do you need to remove the starter to replace the solenoid? Sorry no very good with sparksn better with oily bits lol.

K7 is for the mirrors and blower. If bridging k7 makes the blower and mirrors work and k5 the windows, the problem is normally to with the green/black wire (if both relays aren't duff). The 8mm holds the green/black wire to the terminal, but the terminal itself can work loose from the solenoid. Remove the wire and try tightening the terminal itself.

Cheers james,

I know I asked earlier but how do I go about checking if the relay is duff or not? Nothing to advanced as I'm a bit dopey with sparks lol.

I'll have a look at the terminal tomorrow if I get a chance.

As above, connect pin 86 of the relay to 12v and then earth pin 85. As you earth it the relay should click. If it doesn't click, the relay isn't doing its thing.
