Just picked up a 316i (M40 engine)
I have checked for a spark, which I have.
Taken off fuel hose from fuel filter in the engine bay and cranked it over. No fuel is coming out of the pipe. When ignition is turned on I cant hear anything from the fuel pump, also nothing from it while cranking engine.
I've swapped the fuel pump relay with the horn one (apparently the same). Still nothing.
What is my next check point before buying a fuel pump?
Thanks
316i wont start (fuel pump)

Fuse 11 feeds the FPR.
Try linking the red/white and green/purple wires at the the FPR's base(remove relay and insert the link wire into the slots in the holder)This should make the pump run continueously)
If still no joy, remove the pump and bench test.

'Spare' plug is for a carbon canister, only fitted to very late UK supplied cars.
I had to replace a fuel pump a while back, sourced my replacement from GSF.
The pump comes without it's cradle,so the old one needs to be removed carefully.

Put a new pump on that my mates dad had laying around. Run fantastic for 10 mins until I took the air filter out. Pumps gone again. Is this just a coincidence or could it be something causing it?

If the replacement pump has been stored dry it may well fail when put back into use. The internal surfaces of the pump are bare steel, washed clean with petrol. Once stored, without being oiled, it rusts very quickly.
