I was having a little dig around my M20 engine and come up with a few questions which I hope someone can answer..

Firstly what is this sensor? It's located near the oil filter (right hand side of picture) and looks abit grimey and the wire looks cut back as well.

From the passenger side of the engine bay, looking down there's a plug hanging, not being plugged into anything. Any ideas what this is?

Lastly I know we all dread the cappuccino coolant, but I've noticed my coolant is a dark shade, and I'm worried it's mixing with the oil. Could it just been that a coolant flush is needed? There's no mayonaise under the oil cap, and had it's last service in December.

1) can't make much sense of the pic., but the only sensor near the oil filter is the low oil pressure switch. Disconnect the wire and your oil pressure light should NOT come on as normal when you switch on the ignition. Wire certainly shouldn't look like that!

2) This one comes up about once a fortnight! It's the connector for the fuel tank vent. valve, only fitted on versions with emissions equipment.

3)Coolant with oil mixed with it goes white or grey, not dark, although unmixed oil floats on top of the coolant. Stick your finger into it. If it comes out oily, then you have a major problem.
Maybe just the pic., but the level in that tank looks like it's right up to the neck. Should be level with the seam, or just below.

You've got a very good eye for detail.. had just topped the tank up! Ok will check in the morning when it's cold.. I don't think it's oilly.. but fingers crossed.. was worried because I havent had a car with a coolant that colour before.. might be because I filled it up with water after changing the viscous fan, and it's probably all dirty through the system (I hope anyway)
