Got T-Boned at Brands yesterday at Paddock hill bend. Thought you guys might want to wince at this...

Image

The roll cage held up pretty well and only bent inwards slightly. Floor is ripped at the leg of the cage. I'm fine.

Apparently the floor could be cut out and replaced and checked for cracks...surely a re-shell would be easier?

I had to zoom in on the picture to see the problem. And to be honest it looks like a relatively easy repair. Sand it back, spray on some plastic primer, then some proper paint, and that wing mirror will match the rest of the bodywork in no time.

Thought you would advise me to check the wiki, but that advice was slightly more useful. Cheers as always Grr.... :P

Is the car tracking straight?

If so,surely pushing the leg of the cage back out and welding the floor up is the easy option?

Any bent cage bars will need to be replaced I'm told. Need to see if it's straight as you say first. Starting to get slightly optimistic I asked some scrutineers and they are most concerned about hidden cracks in the floor and the cage bars being replaced. Have ripped an engine mount too.

If it's straight it's probably easier to fix and replace bits of cage?

It must be easier and quicker to repair if the shell is still straight, although you will have to be guided by the race experts.

Just thinking of all the time and effort that you have put in to get the thing race-prepared,seems daft to throw it all away and start over with another shell!

Better luck next time!

Ideally needs to go on a jig, but it's surprising what you can achieve with a portapower and a few hours work. Keep an eye on the corner weights.

Good to hear you are OK - that's the most important thing.

I agree with Brian on this one - however, if you can wait a month or so, I will have a rolling shell with safety devices cage fitted coming up for sale.... winkeye :thumb:
