As sweep says,2 and 14.

It would be a good  to examine 9 for wear and condition as well.

14 is retained by a roll pin,so take great care to capture the little bugger as you strip the knuckle joint out!

Great cheers guys ill find the part numbers and get them ordered. Does the prop have to be disconnected or is it a case of unbolt & support the back of the box?

It's a job that I have only carried out whilst doing engine swaps, very easy with the 'box on the garage floor!

Have a wander through the wiki, there is at least a 'short shift' article that will describe the strip down method with the 'box in the car.

Part 14 was modified part way through E30 production, and needs a modified part 9 to suit.
Change the small oil seal on the shaft behind part 14, while it's off.

It is a fiddley job but well worth doing. I did the bushes 6 months ago and it made a huge difference to the gear change. When you order the parts give the motor factor your VIN number to get the correct bushes. I think I replaced all the bushes and clips.

Hmmmm ok I may price up complete, I always have issues with my vin as its a 318 shell but a m20b28 engine even though its a declared swap it does cause a headache. I usually use a googled reg or last part of vin.

It's not worth uprating them, the rubber top one is only about 13mm diameter and the pull rod ones are practically plastic.

Depending on where you are and how long you would be willing to be without the linkage I can cast polyurethane at 70a or 90a in there.

Totally not worth it though.

Dirty fiddly job on axle stands. I've done it and wouldn't want to do it again with the engine and box still In the car.

Iirc there is a clip and pin arrangement where the linkage connects to the box which is a pig to undo, there is also a clip that needs to be flipped upwards to release the linkage again at the box end which was also a pig to undo on my car.

To give you a bit more room undo the fan shroud at the font which will allow the gearbox to drop down without the fan catching when you undo the mounts.
