I have a 325i Sport Mtech 1 from 1987. It's been remapped, It has a sports manifold and scorpion exhaust. Last night I took her for a midnight drive and everything was fine. I could use all the revs in every gear with no wired noises or any lack of performance. But once I was in 5th and just reaching 117 - 125 a quite loud noise is coming from either the engine or the front left wheel, but I'm really not sure. It's like a grinding sort of weird noise. I did it twice to make sure I wasn't hearing things and it is defo there. Not sure if lack of power comes with it as I didn't let it sound like that for long, or push it harder. The car felt as if it could of gone faster but the noise was putting me off. Any idea's on what this might be or what I should check to maybe find the culprit.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Wheel bearing, perhaps? Jack up the car and spin and shake the wheels to check.

Where did you manage to clock 120mph ????
I'm sure the GPS would have read lower.

first: I have no job to get to in the morning, so that's all good there. Second: On a very straight road.. third: I'll check the front wheels today and see if they sound/feel weird.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I had a grinding noise which got louder as the speed increased, it ended up being the oil drive pully.
If you change the wheel bearings do not got for the cheap crap, I made that mistake once ended up changing it again

Is the exhaust all ok ? Surelly at that speed that would get hot.
I have a 535d and its hard to stay within the speed limits on the motorways.

Guys. It was a loose wheel bolt
.
But I don't know how that happened.. I made sure each bolt was 100 ft pound, done with a toque wrench and I used copper grease!
Everything else was sound down there, nothing loose or making weird noises but thanks for the help!
I've never owned an E30, this is my third car and I find it hard not to drive it like a race car everywhere. Not that I do! I just find it hard

I'm pretty sure you should be dry torquing wheel bolts.
