Hi,

I've had my car for a little over a year now, and initially carried out a lot of work on it to get it up to scratch.

Since I was spending a lot of money on the car at the time I foolishly opted for a cheap centre and rear box from Euro Car Parts. The cost of both parts came to less than £200 but was all that they had to offer at the time. The quality of both parts really was bad, but for the price I accepted that (after making a few tweaks here and there).

Now after just over 10,000 miles the baffles within the centre box have given up and under any kind of load gives a terrible drone. For any price I find this unacceptable and have been trying my best for a refund of some kind through emails.

That aside I am on the hunt for a new quality exhaust (I don't want to go for a stainless sport exhaust). Is there anyone out there who can advise on this?

Alternatively I have thought about trying a straight pipe directly to the back box doing away with the centre section. Has anyone experienced this; what sort of sound/drone should I expect?

Thanks in advance,

Jack

When I first had my 320i a few years ago, the centre box was a bit corroded and needed replacing. Luckily it ws pre cat. After checking around I was pleasantly surprised to find that my local BMW dealer could do the entire middle box for £130. I nearly bit his hand off and ordered it straight away. It has been trouble free since and is still in excellent condition. So my advice is to try your dealer and see if they can get a discount for you.

I don't think removing the middle box would be a good idea personally.

I'm pre cat too... If I had any idea I could have got it that cheap in the first place that's the first place I'd be looking!

I'll make a few calls to my local dealers and report back.

Cheers

Some companies will make your a stainless exhaust up to your specifications, including standard replacements to keep it reasonably quiet.
