Hi Zoners,

Just a quick question here.

I understand that the Blue sensor is responsible for the coolant temperature... but does anybody know what the Brown sensor is responsible for?

Part 6 on the link below:

Thanks in advanced.

Top Man Thanks for this :)

Do you know where I can get the brown plug from other than BMW?

Why would you want a new one? Is your temp gauge not working?

They can be had from plenty of motor factors (CP4L, GSF) but you get what you pay for.

Having changed the blue sensor before due to over fueling problems had improved the fueling some what a few years ago. The car has been sleeping in the garage for long while now.

The temp gauge works fine and normally sits bang on in the middle on the temp gauge.

Having never changed the brown sensor I was just thinking this could do with a new one as its gone past its 20 + years of service however I will check on the weekend and get the multi meter out and have a good ole look.

From memory she still is over fueling but not as bad as she use to be after changing most things she has progressed but it is still quiet not right.

I asked where else apart from BMW to go ahead and get this as BMW no longer stock this part.

There is absolutely no point in replacing a fully functioning brown temperature sensor. It is inherently more reliable than the blue one, and should last forever unless it is physically damaged.
