First thing to do is to listen to relay K2 in the fusebox while someone presses the horn button with the ignition on.
Does it click?
Does it click?

Where and how depends on the spec. of your car. It will either have a single horn mounted behind the top of the kidney grill with two single spade connectors on wires connected to it, or it will have two horns, one each side, mounted BELOW the panels below the headlamps. These horns will have two pin plugs of a similar style to those connecting the headlamps, washer pump, etc.

Local garage has looked at my none-working horn and advised there is an earth fault where it connects to the steering rack.....
Does that make sense to you Brian?

Horn switch eventually earths through the lower steering column, and dirt builds up on the balls insulating the column.baur320 wrote:Local garage has looked at my none-working horn and advised there is an earth fault where it connects to the steering rack.....

The test is to rotate the steering wheel while keeping the button pressed.
A good squirt of switch cleaner up the column from under the bonnet, followed by some spray grease will sort it.

Horns themselves connect to earth at a stud on the LH inner wing, below the headlamps.

ok thanks brian i know the stud, does that mean i have to run a wire right across from the RH horn ? is there no easier way nearer that horn ?
to be clear..i just need to make a wire, with a flat hoop connector on one end, and a spade connector on the other , and go from that stud to the other terminal on the horn, correct ?

The only wires I have - is 1 wire to each horn from the loom with 1 spade connector in the rubber cover , which I presume is the live, no other wires, and each horn has 2 terminals- so I presume I need the wire in the negative/earth wire to each horn ?

This must be pre face lift stuff? I'm not over familiar with the finer details of their wiring, but if there's only one wire, then I presume it was intended to be used with single terminal horns that earth through their own mounting brackets.
If you have single terminal wiring and two wire horns, then a short wire from the neg. terminal to a ring terminal under the fixing nut would do the job.
