Hi,
The alarm in the car has started playing up. It beeps continually when on and then when off it makes a low noise like interference.
Disabled using the key it switches off but it's something I need to fix.
Took the unit out to look for anything obvious inside but didn't see anything that looked out of place. Have seen the thread separately on the battery pack but I'll need to have another look at that.
In the meantime I videod it if it helps anyone determine what's up with it. (it might be a little loud at the start though - after 12 seconds you can hear the low noise you get left with)

More than likely a dud battery! Measure the voltage across it.
That's like mine in the battery thread. Mine is a lot louder but one of the cells is ruptured and I haven't a clue how long it's been like it. You know what seller's are like " I never use the alarm,aircon or lights"

So I opened it up again and looked at the battery - it's a different type than broadie's - Varta 7.2v 240mAh. It didn't look like it had burst but I measured the voltage across it and it was less than 2v - I'm assuming it's not happy in some shape or form.
Have tried looking on the internet to find similar - there's something like this from TNR batteries but it's a 150mAh unit rather than 240. I can find the individual cells elsewhere at farnell CPC.

Does anyone know of somewhere that could make up the cell pack from 6 individual cells?
Presumably to remove the old one I'd have to loosen the solder from the circuit board. Once removed would I still be able to drive the car with the alarm switched off with the key?

Have a search for alarm box batteries (domestic burglar alarm sounders).
The lower capacity 150mA/hr version would work OK.
No problem driving the car with the battery removed and the key off.

I polished the car this afternoon and left the alarm on for a while.
It seemed to sort itself out so I'm wondering if it's gone flat while the car isn't being used and the battery is disconnected with the isolator that I've got.
Of course, if the rechargeable battery has gone completely flat and stayed like that for some time then maybe that's what's buggered the battery.
At the end of the day when I went to drive the car then the alarm made a high pitched sound again.
I'll look up getting a new battery.
How long do these things take to get a full charge?

So updating this in case someone finds it in future. Other details in Broadie's thread on his similar alarm problem.
In summary:
Couldn't find the battery online and rang around and got pointed to a company called cell pack solutions.
They made a battery up for me which ended up being slightly longer than the original but it was possible to make it fit. They asked about the pin pitch and MrWhite was kind enough to confirm that it's 10mm. Cost of the battery including shipping was £27.59 - it took them a week to get it sent once I'd given them the pin pitch.
Old and new battery:
Pins bent inwards to locate in the holes and cabletied in place before soldering.
Soldering isn't my speciality but it was good enough
All back together (probably should have given it a clean).
Alarm now working properly

You should buy some loom wrapping tape!
