Hey guys,

Well today i was finishing off some odd minor things with the aims of bringing the car back on the road, its been off the road for a few weeks and i noticed that the drivers side carpet was a bit wet, from inspecting under the carpet in the rear that is also soaked with also alot of water sitting on the floor pan and the passenger side is also a little bit wet but not as bad as the drivers side.

Firstly, any advice for draining the water out of the car easily and secondly any one know where all the drain holes are for a 316i and what might be a cause for this to try and prevent?

When my car let in water and I needed to dry the carpet I took the seat out, removed the plastic trim that holds the carpet down under the door so I could lift it enough to get towels or newspaper underneath to soak up most of the water.

Then I used some wooden blocks to hold the carpet up and a fan heater to dry off the last of the moisture.

It takes ages to get it properly dried out.

My leak was from the passenger door.

It's not difficult to remove the carpet, and that's the only way you'll dry it properly. It will be holding several litres of water.
Drive the car while the carpet is out, and see where the water is coming in. Dusting talcum powder around helps.

Without removing is quite easy -

In the front footpans look for the small round bungs from the bottom- push them up and out and you can "pump" the water out like a foot pump pressing on the carpet above ,get as much out as you can that way and wait 10 mins do it again and repeat till done
once you have the front seats out and sill trims etc you can then prop the carpet up with bits of wood etc from front and rear - then all water drains down toward the tunnel and catch it there and leave to dry right out for a few days like that airing out and then when done/and during , use a fan or hair dryer to get it bone dry

I shall take a check with the drivers door, i think with the car sitting on a slight slope is the reason for it pooling at the back, although its working out if it is coming from the front or the back.

Ive popped that bung up thats under the drivers side at the front although didnt see one at the rear...but it also does help that it decided to have a heavy down pour nearly all day aswell :/
