I have a e30 325i touring which has a strange problem with the viscous fan, when the car warms up and the fan engages it makes a loud knocking noise, almost like a seized tappet sort of noise. I thought it might be hitting something but all seems clear and spins ok when the engines not running. Once it cools down the noise then goes away again.
Its got a new viscous clutch, the £100 beru clutch from ECP, so not a cheap ebay one. Only thing I noticed it has a coil spring centre rather than the strip across the centre, not sure if that has anything to do with it?
Any ideas what could be going on?
