Anyone know how a 2.93 diff will feel like on a 320 cab? And on a 325 as it will be converted in the summer.
Or should I hold out and wait for a 3.73 diff from the US, or risk it and go for a 3.64 diff in the UK but is rusted to sh*t?

I honestly think a 2.93 will be too tall for a 320 or even a 325. I have a 3.46 on my M30 conversion and i wouldn't want to go any taller than that. You get very low rpm motorway cruising but acceleration is reduced. For a 320 soon to be a 325 i would fit a 3.64 which gives the best of both worlds in my opinion. If you want to track/thrash or race then get a 4.1 as they are cheap and plentyful.

2.93 will be far far far too low. You'll struggle to move off in a diff that tall.
I converted a 320 to a 325i, used a 3.64 diff with the original 320's gearbox. Works perfectly in a heavy touring, and a cab will be about the same weight.
Don't bother importing anything like a diff from the States, it won't survive the journey. Just buy the UK one. A diff that looks rusty means f-all - it's a sealed unit so the way it looks is of next to no importance, as long as the cover plate gasket is still good. If you want it to look good (why would you? do you live under your car?) then stick it in an electrolysis tank and then paint it.

As above, the most heavily rusted diff. imaginable will clean up a treat after a day or two in an electrolysis tank.
A 2.93 diff. is far to low for any E30 with an overdrive gearbox, but is a sought after ratio for those doing a M5x engine conversion, because it allows the use of the much superior E34/36 gearbox.

Ok cheers for the above lads. Will get the rusted one and clean it up. It hasn't been used for 13 years apparently though, anything I should look out for? Don't want to drop 400 on a dud diff..!
