Diff output shafts - they move in and out very easy

On one side the output shaft moves out very easily from the diff

So much so, that with the rear end on axle stands the weight of the half shaft and hub pull the diff output shaft out slightly

Is this ok ?

or is my "shaft seal with locking ring" fu*ked ? item 3 on this link. ?

Part 3 is more likely to be missing, I'd have thought. have a peek inside the diff once part 1 is removed.
