I'm having a few issues with my m30'd car not running, its starts and runs for a few seconds then dies. I've been going through everything and checking but I noticed today that as soon as you turn the key to start it the rev counter jumps to 2000rpm and stays there while cranking.
Could this be a clue as to why it won't run?

Was the car originally a four-pot? If so, the coding plug in your cluster will be misinterpreting the signals from the ECU. Shouldn't affect the running of the engine though.

The version of the SI board in the cluster that has lithium batteries often develops odd syymptoms like this. Has no effect on the engine.
For your problem, monitor the pressure in the fuel rail when you start the engine.
