ECU Question

I am upgrading my 316i with a 318i engine, do i need the ECU from the 318i or will my own 316i ECU do?

Different part numbers, and there were different ECUs fitted depending on the age of the engine (Different versions of Motronic).
Would probably run, but wouldn't be ideal for economy or power.

Would it be alright to run the 318i engine off the 316i ECU for a while and then switch to a 318i ECU when i get one, would it do any harm or would it be ok?

Wouldn't do any damage but it wouldn't be ideal.
Just stick up a wanted ad and I guarantee you'll have the right ECU within a week.

It isnt a good idea to have the wrong ECU!
If you need a 318i ECU i have a spare for sale.
