Symptoms:
Before the engine would cut out once warm, i had an issue with the car not idling correctly and taking forever to warm up.
I suspected it to be the blue temp sensor and for good measure i was going to change out the thermostat.
Unfortunately i still haven't got around to doing this but the other day the battery went flat as i haven't drove it in a while, so i charged it up, once i put the batter back in started her up she fired up fine but once the temp went over the blue line it would cut out.
I then start her up again immediately and she always fires straight up again but as soon as it hits idle it will cut out.
Odd thing i this only happens once warm as i left it for a while to cool off and went to start it it started and idled all be it a little bit rough but it didn't cut out. So i know its an issue with it being mainly when car it warm.
Car is M20 325i cab
Any thoughts?
Cutting out issue.

Probably is the blue temp sensor, but you really need to test it to identify where the problem is - don't just replace it blindly.

I had a similar problem. Surging and stalling occasionally. Turned out after some diagnosis to be the idle control valve actuator was sending a random signal to the ECU. Replaced the icv and it was fine.. Then set up the idle corrctly..
