Has anyone tried fitting an E36 325i or a 328i shift lever to an E30 as a quick shift option, I have one lying around and I am wondering if it is worth having a tinker to see if it works ?!

Why then people are after more expensive Z4 shifters?
I`m driving E30, 1989, 325i, 4 door. Restoring 1990, 4 door.

They're not. They're after the far superior Z3 1.9 shifter, which gives a good notchy shifty without grinding.
