alternator not charging

hi the other my speedo clocks burnt out, and now my alternator wont charge, ive changed them both, now theirs 2 lives that go to the alternator and the 13ml bolt and live are ok, but the wire that goes to the 8ml bolt has no live, i put a wire from the battery to the 8ml bolt now it charges but i need to no why their is no live i don't want to bodge it please help me, where does the live go to or where could it be broken down please???

Is your starter wiring correct, since that's what the alternator wires to. It should look like this:

And what car are we talking about here? And what made the clocks burn out.

Do you get the battery light come on in the cluster before you start the car if not the chances are that's the reason for it not charging...blown bulb/faulty cluster
