Folks,
im stripping down my swing arms and whilst inspecting everything for an overhaul i noticed that one of the Cv joints shafts (one that bolts to the diff) is near rock solid and olly moves a few mm even with max pressure applies (the arms are off the car).
I note from the real oem that you can buy repair kits

are these straight forward for a notice to do...anyone overhauled these before and could offer any advice?
Cheers

the repair kit is for the rubber boot, not the joint.
can you explain the "Only moves a few mm" a bit more.....

Hi Kam...i suspected the image was just the boot as opposed to the joint but was not sure.
One of the Cv joints (diff side) is incredibly stiff and is very very knotty to move by hand...with mole grips i can just about get it to move but thats it..
Can these CV's be removed and changed or is this shaft unusable?
cheers

The joint might be dry, pull the boot back and fill with CV joint grease.

They should be difficult to move, they only become easy to move once worn, you have probably moved the joint into an unworn section

Theyre not knackered unless there is loads of play, no point swapping them round really

I have swapped my shafts over on both of my E30s......pack the joints with proper CV grease and fit new rubber boots if needed.aimlessrock wrote:thanks Dan...in that case the other drive shaft (the one that moves nicely) maybe the knackered one...just a thought, can i swap them over so the wear going for ward will be on a different side??
My current E30 has been running like this for about 8 years now.
