I have a 1988 318i and under medium to hard brake application the car pulls to the right.

I have fitted new front pads and the discs are fine (no judder or major lips or grooves). New front brake hoses, all the sliders are fine and the caliper pistons on both sides are completely free.

Any ideas what could be the problem???

Hydraulic pressure imbalance......

There may be some air trapped in the left braking circuit........

Take it to where you get your mot done and get it tested on their brake rollers for imbalance.even though the pistons move in the caliper one could be lazy and the roller tester should pick it up.

I would be looking at the tracking and for worn suspension componets. Bottom arms and the rear lolipops especially.

I had an MOT carried out with this problem, i thought it was going to fail but it didnt.

When i replaced the hoses i bled the system and this didnt seem to make a difference. I can definitely feel that in traffic at low speed the front right is working harder and the nose slightly pitches to the right

I have also had the tracking carried out(although it does pull to the left slightly)and the problem still occurred with the braking.

Both lower Arm bushes are fine with no movement or breaking up of the bush

I know that the handbrake needs adjusting since the mot but the rear brakes passed the brake tester
