Flickering / solid battery red light

I've just stated driving my 318 cab after a long period of no use and the alternator / battery light on the dash is flickering / solid. THe battery is good, its fully charged and new. THe alternator must be charging as the voltage was 13.4v whilst running, therefore does anyone have any suggestions about what it could be?

Check the carbon brushes on the regulator pack. (screwed into the back of the alternator - just remove the two crosshead screws.)
