3rd gear crunch

Evening all,

Had this a couple of times during owning my sport but noticed it more lately. When changing gear from second to third there is a slight rumble/crunch, nothing loud, nothing over lasting, almost although I am beating the synchro..

I have a short shift fitted but within the safe guidelines. And I do not rag the ass of the car!

So, any suggestions? I am fearing the worst here, I have heard from a couple it is common and means a new box, no other option.

So what we reckoning?..
