Hello,
I'm very frustrated,

Recently I had diff changed, rear wheel bearings and
today I changed both rear break discs together with new pads and
new shoes and yet there is this annoying whine from the back

Is there anything else that may cause the problem?

when changing the discs I have noticed that the rubber gator on the wheel side of the drive-shaft is covered in oil is this the problem?

Many thanks.

Classic answer!!

Also interested in this as I have a similar issue.

Could it be the fuel pump perhaps?

What are the conditions, is it speed dependent, does the pitch alter with driving/engine speed/gear selected, does the noise change when one side is loaded when cornering? Have you had a friend in the back to identify where noise is coming from? Just because components are new, doesn't mean they cab be ruled out. Fuel pump could be heard when stationary.

..........no kids, therefore search for the annoying noise continues.

The whine can be heard at a speed of 20 mph and gets louder. Usually at 75 mph is annoying.

the noise does not stop if I

- accelerate, decelerate
- I am in gear or neutral
- have my foot on the brake pedal
- have my handbrake on when approaching a roundabout ( for test reasons only )
- have the car loaded or I'm cornering

Can it be that the handbrake shoes are not in perfect position?

cheers

Could well be the prop shaft centre bearing. These squeal like a bitch once you pick up any speed if they are shot. Considering what else you have replaced, that is what my money would be on.
