Hi Guys,

I just went out for a drive and got a puncture (completely flat!), so put on my spare. Went for about 10 mins and got another completely flat tyre. :x (different wheel). I have 17" wheels with nankang tyres which are very thin (sold by a zoner who advertised with 5mm of tread. ). I need 4 new tyres as mine are so thin (and punctured) but dont have a clue what to go for! Any advice? I havent got a lot to spend, but dont want to scimp on tyres at the same time!

Any help would be great. :D

Paul ps. Do people running 17" realy feel the bumps? Or is that because my tyres are realy thin?!!

I have Goodyear F1 GS-D3s in 215/40-17 and I love them. 17" tires just have less sidewall than a 16" or less, so yeah, you are going to feel more regardless of what tire you choose. Is it bad, no, not so much.

The Goodyears rock though and TireRack.com had them on sale recently, so look 'em up. They are definitely worth a try.

Ok, thanks, i will take a look. I was thinking of taking it to quick fit, or is that a realy bad idea? (i dont know how cheap they are!).

Thanks, Paul

going to Kwik Fit can be a good idea - if you get genuine local quotes, Kwik Fit will beat the best price.

Just keep an eye on the fitters to make sure they don't put the tyres on the wing mirrors instead of the wheels by mistake

ps GSD3s are the best tyres I've ever had, and I've tried most.

Better than P-zeros in the wet IMHO

pps tirerack.com would be an American website then?

Shipping to the UK might be rather high.

Thanks for all that. :D And yes tirerack did appear to be american, i think best look for a cheap quote, and then go to quick fit with it and see what turns up. I will let you know!

Thanks,

Paul

eveyone has their own (and fierce) opinions about tyres, and that's a good thing

IMHO japanese tyres are very good, but they don't tend to last. The Goodyears last an incredibly long time, and on top of that, they remain excellent in the wet beyond what seems possible - my last set were worn down almost to slicks, and they STILL gripped superbly in the wet

I only changed them as the MOT man insisted :D

and if you look at mytyres.com, they do test results on most tyres - look at the results for the GSD3s vs the Toyo TS-1 (the TR-1 is too new for test results I assume)

I know 'professional' tests are sometimes useless/biased, but as these are actually on the mytyres site, perhaps they should be given some weight.
