Both the inner and outer rubber strips for one of the side windows have split (a sliver of the inner piece rises up and down with the window). Any advice on if its a simple job to open up and replace them, assuming I can find 2 new pieces?

They are still available to buy from BMW . It is a pretty simple job to do. Best idea is to put the window down first and then remove the outside trim . Take your time as not to bend it. Once removed you will see the rubber and the clips holding it in. Remove the rubber and clips. If you put the clips onto the new rubber and clip it into place . With the inside one you will more than likely need to do exactly the same but you may need to remove the rear card for access. All in all not a hard a job.

Thanks a lot for the tips guys - remove the outside (chrome) trim with delicate use of a screwdriver ?
