Another thing I noticed this morning... I'm worried my fuel pump is whining!!! Is that a sign it's about to die???
I don't know if it's been like it for ages and I've just noticed, or if it has just got worse overnight!!!
Can only hear it at idle, due to the car being so loud, but there is a whining coming from under the rear seat, passenger side (I think)!!!
Is that my cue to change it before I get stranded somewhere???
Fuel pump whine???

Fuel pumps are supposed to whine, and normally whine quite loudly. Not normally heard because it's drowned by the engine, but if you link 30 and 87 on the pump relay on a car with a good pump, you'll be surprised at how loud it is.
Having said that, if you can clearly hear the pump above the engine noise, it has suddenly got louder, and it's not due to a dent in the underside of the tank, then the pump motor is on its last legs. The copper pads of the commutator will have worn almost clean through, and soon it will fail to start if the motor stops with one of the brushes on a patch that has worn right through.

Ok, thanks Brian!!!
I won't panic yet, but might try and obtain a new one to keep in the car, or even just swap out!!!
It failed last year on my cabby at the most inconvenient time, as they always do!!!

When the pump does start to fail, it'll respond to a sharp tap on the top of it for a while, gradually getting more and more troublesome over the course of a week or so, as more of the commutator disappears. Just make sure you have a cross head screwdriver on board to remove the access panel, and a small hammer to hit it with.
