Sorry if it's a daft q but does it come off when you touch the brake for the first time?

Yeah always goes on when ignition turned on goes out when pedal pressed, but when it wants will come back on and will not turn off until the ignition is switched off, indicating something is up but iv checked and both lights working.

Seems to be the week for this!
Adjust the brake pull rod that goes across the car behind the heater box.

It seems you are the man no more silly light, and a bonus the bite on the brake pedal is higher now.
Cheers

I've been getting this problem intermittently too.

Another question; When I start the car the dash flashes 'check', which goes out as soon as I press the brake pedal, is this normal??

This diagram shows the general layout: http://2009.bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/ ... ction_rod/
#11 is the rod to be adjusted - it has a left hand thread at one end and a right hand thread at the other, so turning it (by the flats near the RH end) adjusts its length.
#6 is behind the RH side of the glovebox area, and #15 is behind, and connected to, the top of the brake pedal.
There are two locknuts shown in the diagram, that need to be loosened before the rod can be turned, but only one may be fitted.
Adjust the rod so that the brake pedal is nearly up as far as it can be lifted.

Brought to you from a campsite somewhere in Brittany!
