Hi there-i'm a recent member(ok, i signed up today  )

I've been offered the chance to buy a 1988 320i touring

its alpine white, has 89k on the clock (and bmw sh up to 66k) its got the obd thingy up above the rear view mirror, and original luggage cover.

Unfort it does not have any MOT on it.And it also appears to be leaking from the hatch at the rear (rusted under the rear window-small section).

What i'd like to know is what should I look for in terms of structural problems? It appears to have some rust on the lower part of the drivers front wing (next to the door)

please give me some advice as to what to look out for, as i'd like to look at this car with some knowledge.

Cheers for your your help

Neil

Check the scuttle panel by the bottom corners of the front wind screen for rust and also the jacking point's by the sill's.

Check the rear arches, make sure you have a feel of the iner rear arches if you can.Open both of the hatch covers in the boot and look for rust there as well, you cant see much metal on the right hand side though.

I'm sure some one will follow this post up with some more pointers for you to check.

Thanks very much dude!I really appreciate your input!

Going to view it properly on monday morning-I'll let you know how I get on!

Saw that total BMW has a pdf on how to cure the leaky boot-so that prob wont put me off.

Maybe a couple of years down the line will see a 5.0 v12 installed

however, a sweet m20 2.0 6cyl will suffice until the insurance stop laughing (im 23 and in glasgow)

Once again thanks for your input!
