Air leak on the inlet side or dirty throttle body.
Have you setup the throttle position sensor?

The throttle position sensor is a micro-switch that sits below the throttle body.
You should hear a small "click" as you move the throttle from the idle position and let it relax again.
A lot of owners try to adjust the idle by turning in the factory-set screw, with locking nut, that opens the butterfly slightly....this is wrong.
If you do not get that "click" then make sure the throttle cable is not too tight and loosen that screw until you hear that click....that tells the ECU that you are at idle.
You need to check around all the intake hoses and gaskets that there is no air leak....spraying Carburetor Cleaner around that area while idling should show up a leak.
Then you need to remove the Idle Control Valve (ICV) and give it a good clean.
This is the cylindrical metal contraption that plugs into the intake manifold from underneath...near the firewall. It has an electrical plug on it and a pipe connected to it which plugs into the throttle body input. Remove this and clean out with Carb Cleaner or petrol.
The ticking you hear may by the Hydrolic Tappets....they tend to make a noise on a cold engine or if worn out due to bad oil having been used.
