hi all,
i'm alittle embarrassed to admit i still have a cassette deck stereo in my 320.it still works fine and is connected to a multi-changer so i still have access to radio and cd quality music.after xmas i'm hoping to pick up something alittle more modern and i'm open to suggestions.i,ve been told by an auto electrician that i am not restricted to my current make (kenwood) as the leads are inter-changable so if i fancy a pioneer or an alpine, thats no problem at all.
i dont have sensitive ears so i'm not into amps or bass tubes etc,i just want something which will go with the dashboard light (orange) and looks easy on the eye.my budget is 300 max.
looking forward to your recommendations, karl.
stereo recommendation?

Im on my third Alpine head unit (i keep changing cars) and at the moment i have an Alpine-CDM/9823 its a single cd unit, they come with green, orange and red illumination, so get the right colour when you order. Alpine dont go in for flashy lights and gismos, but the sound quality is very good, mine cost about Ԛ£180ish a year ago.
Im no expert in car hifi but i can hear the difference a good set up makes, i think you get what you pay for, but other people on this forum may have other views on this subject, so good luck.

The one above sounds good.
The only one I could find to match the dashboard lighting when I got one was a VDO 138, and it is the same brand as the instruments as well. Probably not the greatest sound quality and 4x 50watts isn't huge output but it is ok for me. It's illumination is called orange but it is a bit more red than orange though so it doesn't match perfectly but it seems fairly close. I think a lot of their range has orange illumination and there is a 139 model now that can read MP3 CD's range is here: http://www2.vdo.com/vdo/end_consumer/ec ... D=572.aspx.
They also have a range of higher end systems: http://www2.vdo.com/vdo/end_consumer/ec ... ID=19.aspx
I am thinking about getting one of those but I will have a look at that Alpine one now.

I don't think you should have a problem on deciding on which head unit to go for as most modern units have the same connectors on the back and an adaptor lead can be bought to suit the BMW models as well as others.
I've seen them on the Blaupunkt website as i have a DAB Woodstock unit in my car.
