Working through a few of the silly little problems on the touring and now come to the indicators...
They dont cancel themself out after you turn, anyone know what could cause this? Ive checked the Wiki & done some searching but no joy
My windscreen washers aren't working either, but the wiper arms move if I try to spray the screen. No noise at the pumps at all. I havent looked into this yet, done a quick search but no real answers come up from a search. Could it be as simple as a fuse?

Non-self cancelling indicators is most likely the peg or whatever it is at the column/switch interface that is either bust or jammed...squirt of WD40 may fix it.
Washers is most likely to be that long relay in the fuse box or the pump on the bottle.

No idea about the indicator.
For the pump, they can and do break quite often. First thing is to take the plug off the pump and connect it to a bulb, then try the washers and see if the light glows. That'll show you whether the pump's getting power or not.

The 'relay' in the fusebox does not control the washers in normal wash/wipe mode. The washer circuit is a simple 'power to one side of pump. wire between pump and switch, switch earths wire, motor circuit complete' arrangement. The fact that the wipers are triggered confirms (probably) that the switch is OK, so it's likely that either the motor isn't getting power or has failed.
Fuse isn't a possibility, since it's the same one for the wipers.
Connect a 21W 12 volt bulb in place of the pump to check.

the peg is on the switch assembly i think - and there is a bit on the steering wheel which clicks it back in - are you using standard or aftermarket steering wheels?Rtaylor2208 wrote:Jim if you fix the indicators post back as mine does the same so interested to know what the problem is.

The issue with my indicators was actually the peg section on the stalk rather than the column. When you turn the indicator, the peg pushes out and the lip that is on the back of the steering wheel hits it when its on its way back round to cancel it.
Good job I had one on a breaker

Connect the 12 volt bulb to the pin of the pump plug that has the purple/black wire, and the other wire from your bulb to a body earth (top of the suspension turret) with the ignition on and see if it lights. If it does put the plug back on the pump, but hook a strand of fine wire into the plug so that it connects to the brown/black wire, and then earth this wire. This should make the pump run.Jim320i wrote:brianmoooore wrote:The 'relay' in the fusebox does not control the washers in normal wash/wipe mode. Finally got round to trying this just now...Brianmoooore wrote:

Bulb lit up & the washers worked when linking the wiring between the 2... I wont try to guess whats up with it still!
What is the next step?

Pull out the wipe control module in the fusebox, identify pin 86 of its socket, stick a piece of wire in the socket, and earth the other end of the wire, with the ignition on.
Pump should run.

Ok, just getting time to have another go at this.
The wipe control module is the long 8 pin relay? Removing that, there is no 86 on it, there is an 85, which I tried just incase it was a typo but nothing happened. Nor did changing the relay over to another one

86 wasn't a typo as such, just my failing eyesight. 85 is correct!
If earthing the socket where pin 85 plugs in doesn't work the washers, and earthing the brown/black at the pump does, then there's only the piece of wire between the pump, across the front of the car, back the inner wing, into the fuse box and down through the duct to behind the glovebox, where it joins to the wire from pin 85, left to consider. Most likely place for a break is right at the washer plug - give it a pull.

Had a quick check and cant see any visable damage or when I moved it around. Looking at the loom, its looking a little battered, covered in various tape etc.
Now it looks like one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281087971478? ... 190wt_1086
Is that correct? Thats my item, its sold, but im certain I have another sitting in the garage. Or they'll be one on the sport.
If it is, then that loom looks like it can be replaced with a simple plug and play loom rather than having to mess around with the fuse box...

That's a headlamp wash/wipe and intensive screenwash loom. Nothing to do with the normal screenwash/wipe loom, which is integral with the body loom.

Thats what I thought, but thats what seems to be plugged into it all...
Pictures speak a thousand words...

Now this wire was tucked down and out of sight and is on its on with nothing but this on the end

Is something plugged in wrong?

Also, all 3 plugs that plug into the pumps are all on that HLWW loom. This is the reason I asked if it was worth replacing that as its the only thing plugged in so to speak

Then that explains why it doesn't work!Jim320i wrote:Also, all 3 plugs that plug into the pumps are all on that HLWW loom. This is the reason I asked if it was worth replacing that as its the only thing plugged in so to speak
The car body loom has a plug that goes to the screenwasher pump with a purple/black and black/brown wire. The purple/black is an ignition switched constant 12 volts live.
The headlamp wash/wipe loom has an identical plug to the one that fits on the screenwash pump, and a socket that this plug or the original pump plug will fit into. The wires on both the plug and socket are purple/black and black/brown as well, and the two wires just run a few inches between the plug and socket, but with another purple/black joined to it, and running off into the rest of the headlamp wash/wipe loom.
When fitting a headlamp wash/wipe kit, the original plug is removed from the screen pump motor, the identical plug connected in its place, and the now unused pump plug pushed into the flying socket.
The whole purpose of this is to provide a power source (the purple/black wire) for the whole headlamp wash/wipe and intensive screenwash kit without having to splice any wires. The operation of the original screenwash isn't affected in any way, other than it's wires are extended by a couple of inches and go through an extra plug and socket.
Not affected in any way, as long as the plugs are all in the correct place of course!!!

I tried to switch the wires round to the one that was sitting on its own loom (The original one?) But nothing happened.
I need to make sure everything is plugged in correctly first so by the off chance, is there a diagram to show this anywhere?

There should be one blue plug that's coming from the body loom. Plug this directly into the washer pump. This should make the normal screen wash/wipe work.
How many blue plugs (+ one socket) do you have in the area?
Do you have a functioning headlamp wash/wipe and intensive screen wash on this car?
