Today I went to refit the metal water pipe that runs across the front of the engine but there's nowhere to bolt it up to. Shouldn't the water pump have a lug coming off it for this or am I being thick?

Is the bracket not around the back of that pipe? On mine it is engine side of the water pump, I'm not sure if it is visible from the radiator side.

E: It is visible from the front:

No, it's not there at all, and now I've missed the 7 day return period :x .
Looking at your picture my pump's completely different. It has an extra pipe coming off it that yours doesn't. It's obviously the wrong one but it bolts up ok and the notch for the tensioner spring is in the right place etc :?

Can someone tell me what it is I've got from the picture?

Edit
Crap, it's the pre-facelift version, now I have to start all over again

It's only a waterpump,dear!

I am sure that there will be a werido out there who will be desperate for your early pump....if it's any help,I did exactly the same thing when I first built my 2.7,but I did not discover my error until the engine was in the car! :D

Does the timing belt have to come off again before I can remove the pump?

In your situation, engine out of the car,it's not going to effect the belt if you have to remove it.

It's belt/water contamination that may be an issue.
