Thought I'd fiddle with the boot lock as it doesn't lock with the central locking. The key goes into the lock and turns it ok when the boot is open. But where I left it in the lock position and shut the boot it's now locked shut. The key now doesn't go fully into the lock, even with alot of wiggling. Also the button is very stiff when you push it in and gets stuck in. You can pull it out ok though. The central locking sounds like its doing something in the boot but hard to tell.
Just to recap, lock is in vertical position and won't push fully in.
I've read that you can smash the light to get in (don't really wanna do this) or cut a bigger whole through ski hatch.
Boot locked shut, key not working

First thing I'd be doing is holding back the cover on the key hole, emptying quite a bit of WD40 or similar in there and around the outside of the button then trying the button and key repeatedly in the hope that things free up.
As for what's wrong (if the WD40 doesn't work), it's difficult to say, since it didn't work properly before, and now, not knowing what you've done, it works less than it did before!
The nearest two cases I've come across turned out to be caused by a little square of broken toughened glass in one case and a 6mm nut that should have been holding on a rear spoiler in the other, both of which had managed to lodge themselves in the mechanism in such a way as to jam it.
Ski hatch hole is large enough for a child to get through, which is the way I dealt with both of the above cases. My son was 10 for the first one, 12 for the second, and in both cases he was sent through the hole into the boot with a lead light and a 10mm socket and ratchet to unscrew the catch.

Cheers for the advise. Managed to get it open with my girlfriends spare key that is very worn luckily. Will take it apart and have a look now its open. If all else fails I've got a spare lock and will just have to use another key for the boot.

ask the dealer for a lock refurb kit. I've never bought one, but according to many posts on here they're about £20 and give you the bits you need to rebuild your lock with the correct tumblers for your current key.

Most boot-related lock problems are a lack of lubrication.

Yeah I read on he wiki I think that the boot lock has to be sent away to BMW at a large cost I'm guessing. Maybe wrong I dunno. Makes sense as diable says, not used alot. I'll try solve the problem soon but atm alot more important ant things need addressing!
