charge it up and fiddle around a bit. If the keyhole feels really stiff on the driver's side put some wd40 in the keyhole and catch and leave overnight, try again in the morning.

try opening the boot with the key ,it sounds like the central locking is on the blink.

can you hear any motors moving from drivers door or the boot lid ?

You can try to open the front/rear manually by appying a 12v supply briefly to the green/blue and green/black wires from the C/L unit.
Earthing/grounding the green/blue and green/black briefly on an E30, Will. It's later BMW stuff that needs a 12 volt + pulse.

When you get the locking ECU out, the first test I'd do is to unplug it, and connect a 12 volt bulb of at least 21W (indicator or brake light bulb) between the red/black and brown wires.
If it lights at full brightness, then the red/black wire mod. is unlikely to help, although it should be done anyway for long term reliability. If it doesn't light, then check fuse 27 and do the mod.
