Need a bit of advice please people... Have taken out my m42 engine and want to remove the head... Can someone please tell me how to remove the timing chain..? And if there's anything else I need to know? [/quote]
No special tools required as such although I have them - set the engine to TDC by inserting an 8mm drill into the hole at the back of the block with the plastic lug and with the cam cover off, use a steel ruler or set square to make sure the cams are at TDC. Remove the top timing cover, unscrew the 19mm tensioner plunger, remove one cam wheel and the chain comes off and lays in the chain guide. Head comes off after, and if you use a slim enough socket you can undo the torx head bolts and take the head off with the cams and carriers.
